Crash Taylor Interviews…

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you have already seen this, but if you haven’t, here it is.

When Crash Taylor, a kick ass wedding photographer in his own right, contacted me about an interview, I was very flattered. Crash has interviewed some of my favourite wedding photographers in the world, so I must admit I was a bit baffled. But hey, my whole life is a bit surreal these days, so I decided to go with the flow. If you’re interested in knowing more about me, read the interview here. It even comes with images. Double whammy.

October 27, 2010 - 6:02 am

Mary Kathryn - Dearest Jonas,
You were the first wedding photographer who’s work I truly loved. Fine art met the cheesy industry of wedding photography? You made what I thought was nearly impossible to do sore.

James Nachtwey and Sally Mann are my favorite photographers. And reading that they were some of your favorites in the interview made me so happy. Several years ago, the same professor exposed me to both James Nachtwey’s documentary “War Photographer” and the first bit of Sally Mann slides I had ever seen. Martin Parr would be in my three favorites with them. Some of the humor, story telling, and irony in your photos reminds me of Martin Parr.

I am a loyal follower of your blog and twitter. I am addicted to what you shoot, what you see, and what you say.

-Mary Kathryn

p.s. Your pal, Mr. Clausen, is photographing my own wedding next summer!

Nick & Surya – the video

Everyone I’ve talked to the last couple of months, have been using the same one word sentences. It usually goes like this:

“Colorado. Man. Speechless.”

I’m pretty sure they’re not just talking about the lovely state, but a little wedding I shot there. However, I can’t take credit for the awesomeness of Nick & Surya’s wedding. I was there and was as amazed as the rest of you. They are the kindest, coolest and most fun-loving people I’ve met and I feel privileged they chose me to document their wedding. I merely pointed my camera at the love that surrounded me.

You’ve all seen mine and Erik’s take on their wedding, so here’s another view. Brian is amazing, there’s no other way to describe him. He shoots film and video and he WILL dance your pants off on the dance floor. I don’t want to call him a videographer or wedding cinematographer. He’s more.

He’s the man.

He’s the Shark Pig.

{wedding} john & kimberley, lawrence, nsw.

“They burn the cane fields at night”, she said and lowered her head.

“I’m sure it doesn’t compare to all the wonderful places you’ve been to this year, but we like it”, she continued.

Kimberley was afraid country New South Wales wouldn’t measure up. What could Lawrence, NSW have to offer compared to Bali, Spain, Colorado, New York and all the other places I’ve been lucky to visit this year?

That was her concern.

Well, as it turned out, Lawrence had a whole heck of a lot to offer.

It’s never about the places.

Always about the people.
