When I was in Cali last year I also met up with talented photographer Erin Lassahn and her boyo Stefan. We started out shooting down in Laguna Beach and then the plan was to head up to Black Star Canyon north of Mission Viejo for some shots around sunset. As we were driving up, I notice we’re running out of time, the sun is about to disappear behind the mountains. What to do? I see a nice spot up a hill, so I figure it’s all or nothing. I stop the car and tell (yell to) Erin and Stefan to scramble up the hill. I SWEAR Erin thought I was mental. She looked at me like I was a mad man. That slope was steeeeeep. Anyway. I’m glad we scrambled. I was going to blog these the day Stefan pops the question, but you can only wait so long, buddy. No pressure.

wow these are unreal – love the subtle editing on the last one (well i’m assuming there’s a dash of editing – although with you you never know you probably nailed that straight out of camera!). inspiring stuff as always.

I’m sitting in the Miami airport right now having been out of the country all week and otherwise offline, and I am so thrilled to come back to find we’re on the blog! great work. not had a chance to experiment but for the life of me cant figure out what you do ith flash to get that effect. rear curain sync. but your subject is frozen and the lights have movement

have you ever shot a wedding when the weather isn’t good? because either you are such a great photographer that you make them all look like it is amazing weather (which I don’t doubt that you are for a second) Or you are lucky to live at this place where it is never as bad weather as it is e.g. in Sweden xD

I am so impressed with the photos that you have taken of the musicians and the guests dancing. I have yet to find a photographer who can make any of our pianists look fabulous as the guys in your photos. Lovely work.

Honestly?
Honestly!?
This is what photography is about to me. A memory that will mean something to me and the people around me for years to come. It’s simple and straightforward, but it’s more powerful than anything “created” by a hotshot photographer with an agenda his clients won’t understand.
Sure, I’m biased, these are my boys, but a moment like this, created or not, will always, ALWAYS be more important to me, or anyone with a family, compared to the posed contrived shot with a fancy video light or a soft box.
Always.
Don’t get me wrong, I pose people like there’s no tomorrow if I have to and I’m about to buy myself some fancy video lights, but in the end it’s important to remember that shots like this one will always win.
