{wedding} Felicity & Paul ~ Coorabella, NSW

The day before Felicity and Paul’s wedding I drove down to Byron Bay and made my way up to the Hinterland. I always do a recce at every location I shoot and this time I had an address to a place called Coorabella. I found the place and drove down a long and winding driveway. It was close to dusk. I arrived at the property and stepped out of my car. It was eerily quiet, no one was around to greet me. And perhaps that’s  what made me fall in love with Coorabella so much. I can honestly say I have never shot a wedding at a place even remotely close to what Coorabella is. Giovanni, the owner, who normally lives in the house has created something out of a fairytale. Some would say a fairytale written by Tim Burton, eclectic and wonderful. To me it has to be one of the most beautiful venues in Australia.

When I met Felicity the next day, everything made perfect sense. She has a great eye for detail and the quirkiness of Coorabella was perfect for the day she and Paul had planned together with Maria, their wedding planner.

In a sense their wedding felt like a small intimate dinner party with friends.

In another it felt like something completely surreal.

Today’s wedding was also featured on Wedding Chicks. Go there for more details goodness.

May 25, 2012 - 6:55 am

Veronica Varos - Geez Louise. Absolutely fabulous.

May 25, 2012 - 6:55 am

julie harmsen - So many treasures. I’m kind of obsessing over the incredible trees there too. Some of the grounds remind me of the movie Melancholia. Stunning photographs.

May 25, 2012 - 6:59 am

Annelie - Maybe the bride is tired of being compared to Angelina, but she looks exactly like her but in a better way:) Love the image when she is leaning to her man and look straight into the camera.

May 25, 2012 - 7:03 am

Inger - Thumping heart, lump in throat. Unbelievably beautiful. I have always been a seaside girl, but when I lived in Australia I fell in love with the hinterlands and its green hills and grand queenslanders on big properties. These people picked a great place to get married. The song captures the feeling of this wedding so well. No less but perfection.

May 25, 2012 - 7:03 am

Paige - so good. her dress was gorgeous. I’m always excited to see your sunset images…

my husband and I are such huge fans of your work. our business is young, but since the beginning we’ve always believed in being there. the whole time. beginning to end, if that’s what she wants. no “4, 6 or 8 hour package”…it was so refreshing/encouraging to stumble upon your work and find that you share that thought.

I appreciate your honesty…it illuminates your images.

May 25, 2012 - 7:09 am

Bethany Ann - Absolutely stunning. :)

May 25, 2012 - 7:14 am

Max - Insane.

May 25, 2012 - 7:54 am

Eloise Claire - Tilt shifting Like A Boss!!!

May 25, 2012 - 8:09 am

Kristian Leven - IN-credible. I think the reflective Bride and Groom pool shot will get a lot of plaudits, but I also love the subtle shots like the two of that dinner table with the multi-coloured glass at the top – one taken in the cold light of the morning, the other in the warm glow of the afternoon – really wonderful stuff.

May 25, 2012 - 8:11 am

I’m writing to you not because I’m planning a wedding and am in search of a photographer, but because I stayed up last night until 6 am getting taken away to cities I’ve never even heard of and seeing just how powerful love really is.

5 hours. 46 pages. 1 box of Kleenex. Countless smiles.

That was my evening. I’m not engaged (not even dating) but I stumbled across your blog because of Pinterest and was immediately drawn to your photos. The emotions they evoked. The beauty in the little things. The overall feeling of love that emits from each picture.

A perfect moment captured in time.

I will be turning 26 within the next few months and a large portion of my friends are already engaged, married, or have families of their own. I’ve seen the stress that goes into these rights of passage, especially one’s “special day.”

The right dress. Perfect color scheme. Meticulously organized seating chart.

And yet your photos show what everyone’s wedding day should be centered around and what I hope mine focuses on…2 people, who fell in love.

In the past 24 hours I’ve began the reevaluation of my life. What do I love? What is keeping me in Los Angeles, CA? What am I capable of? The answers to these questions have led me to start planning my next big adventure. I realized the farthest I’ve ever traveled was on a cruise with my parents to the Bahamas. My ex boyfriend is from Belfast and distance keeps us apart, my best friend lives in Bondi and the closest we can get is a Skype conversation, and I work at an International Summer Camp and can not visit former campers-all because I still don’t have a passport! So all of that is changing, starting tomorrow morning. Making a plan, working as hard as I can, saving as much as possible and traveling before the new year.

Experiencing the world. Living Life.

Because of You (yes, You) I’m taking my life into my own hands and exploring this great world. What am I hoping to find? I don’t know yet, but like any great traveler, I have a feeling I’ll know it when it happens. So, I wanted to say Thank You for lighting a fire in my heart. Being that extra push that I needed. I know you didn’t know it, but thank you. You really do have a gift and I’m so glad that you shared it with the world. And who knows, maybe one day I will be writing you to photograph that special day in my life.

Jonas, your approach, your eyes, you way of sharing all of this with us can only me feel two things : I’d love changing my life as you once did, I’d love visiting the world as you’re doing.

Krystin, visit. Meet people. Enjoy others and other’s culture. My travel to Ireland and the people I met made me think about only one thing. I want to visit more. I want to meet and share with others … that’s the best about traveling to me.

May 26, 2012 - 6:49 am

Raktim - Hi Jonas

Working for Queensberry for past 7 years or so….i have seen it all when it comes to photography, especially wedding photography. But this has to be the best compliment I have ever read on someones photography. Your photography has so much of power to stir emotions this deep. You truly are an amazing photographer!

Keep up the good work.

{preview} Chris & Kim

Long time, no see.

I know I talked the talk, but never walked the walk. I said I would blog more and instead I almost stopped completely. I guess life happens, you know? I’m happy to say I have a lot coming up and my goal is to share that with you. In less than two weeks me and my family pack our bags and embark on a whirlwind trip around the world. I kick off by going to Bali and Elora and Rajiv’s wedding. After that we head to Sicily where we are shooting on the island of Lipari. Then we head “home” to Sweden to piece together my own (!) wedding in July before we head to Malta, Bali and San Francisco before heading HOME home. It’s going to be a fantastic summer and my promise to you  - and myself – is to write about it as often as I can.

But first a little preview from a wedding I will share soon. I shot a great (Gatsby inspired) wedding together with my friend Nirav and we’re both excited about sharing that day with you. Here is a teeny tiny taste of our images from the day.
