New! Music!

Music is such a big part of my life. I listen to it when I edit photos, when I’m in the car, when I’m walking the beaches looking for something to shoot, you name it, I listen to music all the time.

So, starting today, I thought I’d share some of the music I love, here on the blog. I know this is supposed to be about my photography, but some music can’t hurt, right?

I will pick new music, but also older stuff I think people should love.

So, where do we begin?

Well, for me the album of the year so far is Bon Iver’s “For Emma, Forever Ago”

If you haven’t heard it, you can find some other tracks here. If you scroll down on that page you can actually download a newly released EP for free.

I also want you to hear this from Danish Katrine Ottosen.

I think it’s pretty great.

Lovely to listen to a rainy night in Sweden, like this…
Kram Linda

October 7, 2008 - 8:41 am

Ben Helton - Jonas . . . I love your photography — some of your work is just flat out amazing.

Thanks for sharing the music with us — I especially enjoyed Bon Iver

Kate Chiapello - Love it Jonas! I am missing you and Jacqui and Noah. Love and kisses for you all. See you next week! xxx

The infinite sadness

There’s something very wrong about zoos. I know they do good things, but there’s something about the animals. The monkeys look at you with sad eyes through thick glass, often they even face the other way, so they don’t have to look you in the eye.

It feels like they are ashamed.

Or maybe I’m imagining things.

Maybe they’re as happy as happy can be, just waiting for the park to close, so they all can get their samba gear on and party like it’s 1999.

Somehow I doubt it though.

Sara - usch, jag klarar inte av djurparker. Så sorligt :( Väldigt fina bilder dock

October 1, 2008 - 9:30 pm

THE PARSONS - WOW! first, thanks so much for your comment on our blog – how did you find us? second, you inspire us, your work is beautiful, and we love the way it makes us feel. don’t be a stranger! oh, and thanks to you, we now own one of the Explosions in the Sky albums. :)

Emma - Amazing photos.
I use “Looking For Tigers” as desktop background on my laptop at work.
Brings a smile on my face every morning, even on a rainy, cold monday.

Emma - Jonas.

Amber Hughes - Wow! Jonas, I can’t believe I’ve never discovered your blog before now! You’re an amazing photographer and every shot on this page shows that. Love these shots… very touching. You can definitely see the sadness and it’s very well captured.

You’re going in my inspirational blog list I’ll have you know… looking forward to your future posts! :)

Tabitha - These pictures are just wonderful!

October 6, 2008 - 3:28 am

Nicola - These are beautiful shots – I believe you really caught the “emotions” of the animals. My sister, a biologist, has told me that a lot of zoo animals are depressed. That’s why they often rock back and forth. I haven’t been to a zoo since she told me that.

shawna - stunning. absolutely gorgeous work.

Fredrik Schreiber, Sweden - Wonderful pictures you have published. I love the dramatic picture with two rainbows and the dark cloud as well as the lion picture.
I am an amateur photograph with my interest in photography kicked off as a 10 year old boy. Now 31 years later I have the luxury to invest in my first DSLR camera system (Canon EOS) and I am very happy about it.

Emma - Otroligt vackra och gripande bilder.

2009 is looking good

I’ve been in Byron Bay for almost a week, where we hung out with some of my favorite people in the world, Jim and Nettie. As always, paradise is deceptive. I managed to catch a severe cold with all the bells and whistles and now I’m tucked up in bed with a high fever.

I couldn’t figure out why I got five wedding requests in one day last week, but hey, I’m not complaining. All of them sound really cool and hopefully some of you decide to go with me in the end. A very smart choice if I may say so *cough, cough*. When I got back to Brisbane I realized why people are finding my blog all of a sudden.

I’m on the first page of google for several search phrases.

I owe all and everyone who reads my blog and likes my pictures a huge kiss drink.

Your support means a lot and I’m forever grateful.

Just before I left Byron Bay to go back to Brisbane, I got an email from the US. It turns out one of my photos has won a prize in a competition and it will be published in National Geographic early next year. It may not do a lot for my wedding work, but for me personally it’s kind of amazing. I’ll write more about the whole thing later.

Well, back to Byron.

I love Tallows Beach.

Always have.

Always will.

It doesn’t even matter if the weather is crap.

To me it’s still one of the best places in the world.

Frida - Congratulations, you’re worth it. The “Looking for tigers” picture is wonderful and the title and text that goes with it adds to that fact. You’re a big inspiration to me.

k - I love this photo! The perspective, the colors are so wonderful. The sand on the beach almost looks as if it were a rock with cracks. Keep up the great work!
