I looked out the window and saw the mountains in the distance. I’ve seen many mountains, I’ve lived in them, seen friends die on them, but today I was driving to photograph a couple get married there. Where people get married is sometimes important, other times not, but this time I knew it mattered more.

Adelaide grew up in these mountains, in Sun Valley, they are a part of who she is. Nick and her live and work there and so do most of her family and friends.

I wanted this to represent them.

Who they are.

Not who I am or what I want them to be, not shoot “my” wedding with them in it.

I ask people to let me in, the more they give, the more I understand. So over three days in these mountains we saw people love and come together, they opened their arms and let me and Sarah into their midst, they showed us the beauty of their lives and invited us in like family. We shared laughter and tears, dinners and drinks and when I left I knew I had witnessed what I want to capture more of.

Love.

Family.

Connection.

And the overall wonder of life.
