Last Minutes with Oden

I heard about this short doco a couple of days ago, but I’ve been too afraid to watch it. I’ve grown up with dogs and know the pain involved with having to put one down. Today I decided to watch it anyway. I’m glad I did. I cried like a baby, but still feel happy I did. Unconditional love is an amazing thing.

Maalaea - I’m not even sure how I found your site to be honest, but I’m glad I did. It’s 9am in Portland and I’m up rather early today. I decided to click on that video and I’m so glad I did. In an hour I’m going to the funeral of my best friend who died last week in her sleep. It’s true, there is so much pain and beauty in love.

It made me cry, but I’m glad I did.

December 21, 2009 - 5:20 am

Elin - I’ve been through that and it was one of the hardest moments of my life. Just to watch the eyes flicker one last time and the little body getting heavy. But there is something beautiful in pain and that short film really captured that. I’m glad I watched it.

December 21, 2009 - 8:06 am

Margherita - That took me right back to when we had to put our family dog to sleep. Deciding that she was going to die was the roughest decision I ever made. And still, afterwards, a kind of relief. I had known for years that the decision of killing my dearly beloved best friend was eventually coming up.

Damn, I miss her.

December 28, 2009 - 12:11 pm

DavidLee - Has to be one of the best short docs’ I’ve ever seen It’s just packed with raw emotion, and I think all dog owners can relate to the shear heart ache they must have under gone, it makes you not want to have dogs, but then you realize how much they enrich your life during their short lives with us!!

December 29, 2009 - 5:51 am

Deborah Triplett - That was so moving to watch. So touching. My own 4 legged friends are barking in the background for attention. I will give them extra love today after watching this. And a reminder of the power of unconditional love.

Sherry J. - I totally know how you feel ! I am always too scared, too in love, too invested in man’s best friend to watch anything sad. I am glad I did watch “Last Minutes With ODEN” tho. I know God IS love and I keep asking Him to have a doggie heaven becuz they keep right on giving un-conditional love. They are teachers of love. I just hope heaven for them too.

Ben Godkin - LOVE this shot! Was that already there?

the defining moment

As I was taking this shot of Erin and her mother just minutes before they left for the ceremony, I remember thinking how lucky I am. People let me into their lives every weekend, I see so much love and I actually get paid to capture it. I know I go on about this all the time, but I have a pretty fantastic job. My time in ad-land seems so far away at times. No more presenting ad campaigns to people who couldn’t care less, no more meetings with people who resent what I do, no more fake smiles and handshakes.

Instead love and happiness in abundance.

Jonas Hallgren - Very nice picture, and I find myself nodding in agreement – being a bagpiper at several weddings a year puts me in the same environment although not as intimate as you get to be. Underbart :)

August 28, 2009 - 3:57 pm

Ben Blood - Well put man. I know exactly what you mean. This is the life, and I’m sure lucky to be where I’m at now.

I should have seen your work long before now, but someone pointed me in your direction. There is a handful of photography I connect with – yours is a part of that.

Ben

August 28, 2009 - 7:44 pm

ayesha - i agrees. though it also makes me a little nervous when it comes to the day itself – feel the weight of the responsibility…
love this image, the way that the one detail that is most important – the look in the mother’s eyes – stands out so clearly.
