The future of my workshops. And WPPI.

Just a quick update on the future of my workshops and some speaking I’ll be doing soon. For the last two years I’ve been teaching my workshop “A Greater Story” around the world. It’s taken me around Australia, to New York, Vancouver, London, Paris, Cape Town, Sweden and a few other places and it’s been a very interesting learning experience for me and hopefully all the attendees. I see what people are struggling with and it’s helped me get a better understanding what I have to do to better myself and run a smarter business and richer life. Today everyone is a photographer, just look around you on any given day, photos are taken of everything all the time. And the cameras are getting better and better. As photographers we need to learn to be more than just image makers. We need to tell stories and we need to create emotional connection. For me story and connection is everything. It’s what separates pretty from beautiful and what makes our images captivating. The stories are the key to everything.

Because of this I’ve decided to focus on stories this year. I’ve always done it in my work, but I feel it’s time to start preaching it more. I’m taking a brief break from my two day workshops and instead I’m going to offer a one day intense storytelling workshop where I go through everything from how stories affect our brands and client interactions to how to physically craft our stories, both the visual and the written. When you understand the power of the story, everything will change.

I’m putting together a more detailed page for all this, but if you feel you’re interested in me coming to your city teaching on this subject, please drop me a note. The  price for the One Day Storytelling Workshop (name coming soon) will probably be $995 USD.

To kick all of this off, I will be speaking at WPPI in Las Vegas early next month.

I will be teaching a Masterclass on Storytelling for Photographer March 3 at 8am and a Platform Class called the Business of Being You March 5 at 3pm.

A lot of people have also asked me if I can do One on One Mentoring, so I’m launching that soon too. Basically we put together a day of teaching where we go through all the things you’re interested in. If you want to know how I built my social media presence, we’ll talk about that, if you want to know how I edit, we’ll talk about that. It’s your day and the focus will be to grow your business, not mine. We can focus heavily on one subject or cover several, it’s all up to you, but we’ll plan the content together beforehand.

And yes, I’m also going to try to set up some kind of Skype mentoring sessions as well.

If you’re interested in any of these things, let me know.

The One Day Workshop on Storytelling ideally needs 10-20 people to work well, so if you feel you have a large enough group in your area, just send me an email.

Kristopher Gerner - Hello Jonas,

Aya Dajani - Hi Jonas,
If you could have a workshop in Toronto, it would be absolutely amazing. If not, I’m 100% interested in your One on One Mentoring sessions over Skype or in person. I’ve been trying to start up my business as a photographer and it’s been difficult to get my feet on the ground and reaching out to the audience I would like to photograph.
I really would appreciate being part of this :). Let me know if I should be emailing you or anything of that sort.

Thanks,
Aya

Elin - Dear Jonas, I would be very interested in a one to one mentoring, and hope I could afford it. Please keep me posted! (Fear the price will be very high for one to one, considering the 995 p.p for 10-20 people in one day… but fingers crossed you come up with some genial business plan for this!) Cheers

Brian Schindler - Jonas! I believe you should come to Charlotte, NC. Allow us to show you some southern hospitality and teach you about the finer things; barbecue, sweet tea, and cornbread.

Truly, it would be an honor for you to come to the southeast. In a world of southern traditions it’s easy for the story to be lost in the woodwork. I see it happen time and time again, even to some of my own friends. I would love for you to come visit our city and put on a wonderful workshop.

And you rock.

Speaking

The year is coming to an end. I still have four weddings left to shoot and two workshops, one in Melbourne next week and one in Sydney the week after. I’m shooting weddings in both those cities before I head to New Zealand and then finish up in California December 29. I haven’t counted how many weddings I’ve shot, but I’ve had another amazing year. When I’m finished properly I will sit down and look at all the weddings I’ve shot and put a post together, mainly for myself to remember them all.

I put on some good music, lean back and go through them and it all comes back to me.

But we’re not there yet, and that’s not why I’m writing now.

2013 is not here yet, but I already know what I’m doing with my next six months. It’s both the beauty and the curse of doing what I do. My life is mapped out, at least ticket-wise. Of course nothing will turn out exactly the way I foresee it, but hey…

I’m talking a lot more next year.

This year I did workshops in Australia, NYC and Cape Town, next year I’m doing more of them and also speaking at a bunch of conferences and conventions and I thought I’d run through them quickly.

I kick off the year with guest speaking – at my own house – at this little beauty of a workshop January 8-9. I don’t need to tell you how talented I think the Parsons are, do I?

After shooting on Taprobane Island in Sri Lanka late January, I head straight to the Dominican Republic to speak at the What If Conference there February 4-7. I meant to attend last year’s conference myself, so being asked to speak there is an honour.

Ten days after that I head to Europe and this is when the real mayhem starts.

My goal is to do two workshops in London somewhere between the 17-22 February. I’m working on that content as we speak. After that I head to Malaga to speak at BodaF 25-28 February. After Spain I fly straight to Las Vegas where I’ll be co-hosting the next season of The Film Show, something I’m ridiculously excited about. And since I’m already in Vegas, why not attend WPPI while I’m there? (No, I’m not speaking)

After that I get to go home.

For a little bit.

In April, I’m speaking at the Canada Photo Convention in Vancouver (April 23-24). I’m also thinking about doing a workshop or two in North America at that time.

In June, I head over to Europe again and my plan is to do a few more workshops there in the summer months. I haven’t decided on cities yet, so if you’re interested, hit me up.

Well, that’s my start to 2013. I’m also shooting a few weddings around the place, so I’ll be pretty busy.

If I’m in your part of the world, maybe I’ll see you around?

I’m already excited about the year to come.

Oscar Rosander - Hej Jonas,

Har följt dina bloggar sedan urminnes tider höll jag på att säga. Men sedan din tid i Melbs i alla fall.
Driver en anläggning i natursköna Östergötland med plats för workshops. Om det är av intresse, hör av dig.

Vi kanske kan få upp Fredrik Jönsson från Malmö att komma på pilsner…

Hälsar
