800 days in the making

When I was still working as a copywriter in advertising I used to pass this driveway every day. There was something about it that intrigued me. All that white and grey with that added splash of yellow. After passing it 40 times I stopped and looked at it from a photographer’s point of view. After another 40 I actually brought my camera with me and took a photo of it. I knew I wanted to one day take a portait of someone at that very spot. Preferably someone dark haired with black or white clothes. At that time I had no idea I would be shooting weddings today. Last weekend I was in the area and I asked Melissa and Chris if they’d be willing to take a walk with me.

“I have this corner”, I said.

“You have to trust me, I think it will look cool.”

June 2, 2011 - 10:20 pm

Pobke - Love the story and evolution of this spot, JP.

June 2, 2011 - 10:23 pm

Joseph - Oh, this is perfect JP

David Garvin - I think the cloudy day made that yellow even more dramatic. And the greys in the floor look awesome as well.

June 2, 2011 - 10:57 pm

David Garvin - I think the cloudy day helped improve the shot even more than your previous one. It brings out the tones in the floor and helps her hair and lips pop. Great shot.

Hope you can teach me to get the soft tones and muted colours like you do in every photos.

Rickard - Now that’s cool! Btw. I have two simple questions; 1. What program do you use to create your collages? 2. What program do you use to create your slide shows?

I would really appreciate if you let me know:)

Thanks,

Rickard

May 3, 2010 - 2:15 pm

Jonas Peterson - 1. Photoshop. 2. ShowIt Web

May 3, 2010 - 2:28 pm

Rickard - Thamks for the super fast reply.

May 3, 2010 - 3:24 pm

Rickard - Sorry to bother you, but I have now idea how to do it in photoshop. I just tried but just realized I will have to cope a lot to do it. I have to make sure the distance between each photo is exactly the same everywhere and I have to calculate so that I make the correct size on the photos when I wanna have three in a row beneath a big one. There gotta be an easier way huh?:P Btw. is it called collage? Beacause I cannot find very much about it on google. Do you have an instant tip on where I can find information?

I appreciate it a lot.

Rickard

May 3, 2010 - 4:47 pm

Teresa K - Phenominal image Jonas…I love it on so many levels.

May 3, 2010 - 9:25 pm

Jonas Peterson - Nope, Richard, there’s no easy way. You have to decide what distance you want between your images and then create custom templates in PS.

May 6, 2010 - 9:42 am

Rickard - Ok, Jonas, then I know:) Thanks. I found out a little more on how to use the grid and such )is that how you do it?)So I think I can figure it out:) Damn me and my laziness:P

Done

It’s getting late in Brisbane. All I can hear is the steady hum of the fan in our bedroom, the rest of the house is quiet. I’ve been going since 4am this morning, but still I can’t sleep. It sometimes happens after I’ve shot a wedding and today I shot the last one of the year down in Sydney. I want to write that I’m mentally tired and need a rest, but the truth is I’m looking forward to the next one in ten days. My first one in 2010. This time in Melbourne. But for now I’m done. No more weddings this year. I hope.

Oh, this is Kesh.

She got married to Tim this morning.

It’s been a pretty amazing day.

Rhiannon

I’m sitting at my desk watching the rain pouring down outside. We live 18 metres from the ocean, so even on a day like this the view is pretty fantastic. I’m going through images from the year and I still have a lot of weddings I haven’t had a chance to blog. I’ve been all over this huge country but also to Europe, Asia and the US. If it wasn’t for my crazy schedule, I’d blog more weddings, but every time I sit down to work on a blog post, I get super anal about stuff, which photos to pick and and so on. Suddenly a whole day is gone. I’ll try and upload some more stuff before my next wedding. I’m shooting the last wedding of the year in Sydney on the 29th. It should be a great day. Here’s two shots from another beautiful day a while back. Rhi and Brian got married in Avoca Beach on the Central Coast and it was one of those wedding that will stay with me for a long time. If only I could get some time to blog it. Fingers crossed, hey.
